In October 2015, the New York State Courts hosted a National Human Trafficking Summit which included representatives from states around the country to address sex and labor trafficking issues as they affect the courts. Inspired by the Summit, Tennessee established its Cherished H.E.A.R.T.S. Program in February 2016. The Program is a first-of-its-kind specialty court for victims of trafficking and prostitution in hopes of avoiding incarceration. In less than a year, the court has seen four women graduate from the Program and begin new lives.
