Attendance by a court team at the National Summit on Human Trafficking and the State Courts.
The Collaborative consulting team conducted interviews with justice system officials in all levels of courts, facilitated meetings of a statewide Human Trafficking Committee, and prepared detailed interview and meeting summaries regarding the major issues facing the Georgia courts in identifying and processing human trafficking-involved cases. The Committee identified the following goals for the Georgia state courts to pursue:
• increase awareness of human trafficking across the justice system;
• develop protocols on how to identify trafficking victims;
• develop best practices for judges on how to handle trafficking victims in court, including determining the appropriate roles of the judge and providing for the safety of the victims; and
• identify and develop services for victims.
The state continues to work to address these goals.
